PRACTICAL GO-TO GUIDE ON HEALTH & SAFETY FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Jul 16, 2024 | Nationwide News

‘Safety Sorted’ is designed as a practical, no-nonsense guide and road map through health and safety for small businesses, according to its author Mary Darlington, BSc, CFIOSH, a chartered health and safety consultant.

“As well as running a small business, delivering goods or services and paying the wages every Friday, all small business owners in Ireland are expected to be fully up to speed with health and safety law.  However, the cold harsh reality is that small companies often do not have the time, resources or expertise to plough through all the laws and regulations that apply to them….and even if they did, they most likely would not know how or where to start. Larger companies employ their own in-house health and safety professionals as safety officers and managers to implement all of this, and are kept busy keeping up with all that they need to comply with,” notes Mary Darlington in her introduction.

‘Safety Sorted’ aims to educate and support the small business owner …. it is “a practical, no-nonsense guide and road map through health and safety as it simplifies everything down using ‘layman’s English’. Furthermore, it is aimed at the small business owner who has had no formal training or expertise so that they can get to grips with health and safety in their business, in order to protect their employees, customers and others”.

The book includes a range of real-life cases, which illustrate what went wrong and a selection of checklists to help the small business owner get started. “Every small business in Ireland who wants to do the right thing regarding health and safety needs this book,” notes Mary.

‘Safety Sorted’ is available from the Book Centre in Waterford and also on www.amazon.de or www.amazon.com

Mary Darlington’s self-published book is the culmination of over 30 years of experience she has gained both as a safety manager in industry and as a chartered health and safety professional working with a range of companies, big and small.
